Migration from LM12 to 14

hello,

I am a happy user of LM12 for quite a while. I am considering a migration to LM14 now and would like to ask here if it is possible to install LM 14 over my LM12 on the same partition and keep my settings and home folder and applications nevertheless.

Another solution would be to install it on a new partition on the same hard drive. Could I migrate everything from my old LM12 partition to the new one and how? IIs there a tool I could use? I also have a backup of my system on an external hard drive. How could I use it to migrate my stuff to LM14?

I greatly appreciate any suggestions before going to work.
