Filing bug report - installer crashed solved

The installer produced a message "Executing 'grubinstall(hd8)' failed. This is a fatal error." It then produced "Installer crashed and advised me to file a bug report at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ub ... bug/+login

I'm stumped because I don't know what to call the package. In case the problem is really dealt with here, I laboriously copied details from the message.

What do I do now? Do I really file a report at Ubuntu and, if so, what do I call the package?

Edit: I filed a report relating to 'debian-installer' without naming a project.

Is grub to be in hd8 which would be sda9 in normal terms

That was the plan. sda9 was to be the root partition and now contains the Mint files.

I already have a distro installed (obviously). Indeed, I have 4 installations. I only use one as a rule but I want to preserve access to all. The existing menu chain loads to sda9.

I've come up against the Debian installer before so I'm not surprised it has failed again. At least this time it recognised the hard drive partitions.

What form did you use in the installer to tell it where to install grub?

For sda9, you should have entered (hd0,8)

OK, thanks, I'll try that. I changed 'hd0' to 'hd8'.

I've now installed Mint. I'll have to withdraw or amend my bug report. Thanks for the help.
