USB Install Fail Mint 14 XFCE

Postby ecoalex on Sat Jan 05, 2013 6:10 pm

In trying to install Mint 14 XFCE 32 bit .iso (I have tested it looked at it on a dvd drive live -ok )on an older desktop with only a cd drive,I have Ubuntu 2007 on the hard drive, when first boot no problem. I opted to use a USB flash drive.I entered the bios, and made the USB drive First boot. Not sure which one to use, have tried them all, with the same fail.

With this one as first boot:

During boot start up I get this :

Is there a format issue? fat 32 vrs ntfs ? How do I get the usb drive to boot? Thanks

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Most likely, your USB flash is rocognised as a hard disk, so it goes inside the Hard Disk Boot Priority

What you do is hit enter after mouse to Hard Disk Boot Priority,
then, inside the list, find your USB flash, which usually shows up with the label or name of the USB flash.
mouse to it, then use page up/down or whatever your bios tells you to move it to the top line,
follow by save/exit, usually F10.
then the computer should reboot and choose to use the USB flash.

I guessed FDD in the bios choices was flash disc drive, but in trying it it didn't boot. I did move FDD to the top of boot priority.None of the USB choices booted.

When I return the hard drive to first boot it boots up '07 Ubuntu ,so I am having the flash drive attempt to boot.Do I need a boot loader? The .iso booted fine in the dvd drive in the other computer.

Would Unetbootin help? The .iso disc booted, but the usb flash won't.
