Monitor Resolution Settings in LM 14

I downloaded an iso image of Linux Mint 14 “Nadia” KDE 64-bit, burned it to a DVD. Prior 'burning' I ensured that the Md5sum tallies. The intergrety of of the Live DVD checked out as well.

I liked very much what I saw.

If I were to install this particular Linux Mint 14 “Nadia” KDE 64-bit distribution (OS), shouldn't I expect that all components, applications and configurations etc. are exactly transferred to my computer's HDD in particular the monitor resolution settings of 1366x768?
TIA.

Hi Charryl,

you'll probably have to install proprietary display drivers for your screen resolution to be detected and applied automatically.
This goes for any OSs (including Windows), not only Mint.

I, for example, even had to install and do the first boot with 'nomodeset' instead of 'splash quiet', or the box would freeze totally (NVIDIA GT 430).

Cheers,
G.

Thanks for responding. :D
So, in other words, some of the settings as seen and experienced on the Live CD won't transfer to HDD during installation. :(
And I thought that the Live CD is there to test a distro for suitability.

No, settings you change during a live session aren't permanently saved (apart from partitioning actions and the like, of course).

If you think about that, it's logical: if those changed settings were to be saved, it would mean data to be written onto the CD/DVD.

To achieve what you expected to happen automatically, one would have to save various configuration files and a whole bunch of driver files onto a separate medium, then manually transfer them to the new system, once installed.

The live session merely confirms that the OS can be run on your system and gives you an impression what Mint looks like and what it can do.

Using the Live CD of LM 14, the monitor resolution can be set to a number of different resolution settings - one these resolution setting is 1366x768.
But when installing LM 14 (removing the Live CD and rebooting the system) the resolution settings are limited and 1366x768 is not available anymore.
