LILO and XFS

Hello,

After some research, I came to the conclusion that XFS was a better faster filesystem than EXT3.

However, when I try to install on Mint Fluxbox, it gives me an error that GRUB fails often on XFS - I should use LILO - but doesn't give me the option to use LILO! Pressing continue doesn't help.

Any idea's?

Mint does not have LILO only grub - can you clarify the above?

that is the message that mint gives (even though mint doesn't do LILO).

I think it might be an oversight left from ubuntu.

end result, i can't install XFS and mint

side issue - tried to install grub to mint partition, rather than mbr - but that doesn't work either.

I think the solution is to install with a separate /boot partition formatted as EXT2 (100meg will be plenty) with GRUB as the bootloader

Then install on separate partitions /home & / formatted as xfs plus any other mount points you want - have a look at this tuning guide towards the end of the page :

XFS looks like a choice for the partion to store your images & large files if you only have a single disk unlike the example in the URL above. EXT3 partions can also probably be upgraded to EXT4 safely once it becomes stable :

No need for ext3 because no need for journaling, but this is probably the way to go
Don't know about the support for XFS though
And it's perhaps not the choice of the day
