GRUB showing too many kernels...

Postby Scozzar on Wed Jan 23, 2013 8:28 pm

I updated my linux kernel from 3.2.0.33 to 3.2.0.36 but both kernels still show in the dual boot menu. I'll attach a pic for you guys what I mean. Also, everytime I go into Grub Customizer and quit it says I have to update. I hit update but the next time I quit (just open the program then quit) it still says it needs to update. I'm thinking about doing a clean install of Mint 13 anyway, or 14 if it's worth it. I did change the order to have Windows first which I know would probably make a difference. Before I do a clean installation I want to get this fixed first.

I'm not sure if I can trash the entries like GRUB customizer says I can....

You can solve this by removing the old kernels using synaptic and then run this command in a terminal:
Code: Select all
sudo update-grub
*ASUS P5KPL-AM SE*Intel Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8200*4 GiB ram*nVidia GeForce 9500GT*Realtek RTL8101/8102E*RaLink RT2500 802.11g*Optiarc DVD RW AD-7200A*HDD:Samsung HD501LJ/HD103SI*Mint 14/Cinnamon*
