Errors On Demo Test

I'm attempting to run LinuxMint 14 from the CD, but it's giving me errors such as "Unable to find a medium containing a live file system".

I'm new to Linux, I've never messed around with any operating system settings so I'd have no idea what I was doing, which is why I downloaded LinuxMint, as I was under the impression it was easy to install and set up.

I'm running a Sony Vaio PCV-RS406. Pentium 4 3.20 processor, 512 MB Ram. Currently running windows XP SP2.

Is it worth formatting and installing LinuxMint 14 on a fresh partition, or is it the case that, if it doesn't work from the CD, it won't work from a fresh install?
