Mint Cinnamon 14.1 appears to have gotten almost through the entire install and then said GRUB failed to write the boot record, fatal error. Boot of drive fails.
The configuration is an 8 GB Intel I5 with BIOS RAID disabled. Two 250 GB Samsung SSD drives on 0 and 1, WDC 80GB on 2, DVD on 3. Ports 0 and 1 are SATA III, ports 2 and 3 are SATA II.
ubuntu server 12.04 installed without a problem.
What has to be done to install Mint?

Re: 14.1 Cinnamon GRUB Fails
Stripped the system down to a single SSD drive (no RAID) on sda on SATA III port 0 with DVD on SATA II port 3. System built fine, including installing the boot.
Reinstalled the RAID drives on SATA III ports 0 and 1 and the Mint drive on SATA II port 2, recreated the RAID configuration in BIOS, set BIOS to boot from the 3rd physical drive and the system boots fine. All 3 drives were new SSD, uninitialized.
Mint cannot handle building on anything other than the 1st physical drive. It installs itself okay on the 3rd drive but errors out trying to write the boot to the 1st physical drive. When it prompts for an alternate, trying to write the boot to the 2nd or 3rd drive also fails because they had not been partitioned/formatted.
Mint is now running, but not seeing the BIOS RAID. That will be the next effort.
