I don't think it's a Linux bug, the card reader is simply not bootable (if the BIOS doesn't see it at boot time). So this thread was not really an installation/boot problem, rather a hardware limitation. I have a new SAMSUNG "Series 3" laptop and its card reader is not bootable either, however the USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports are. PS: I have a Transcend USB 3.0 card reader RDF5, it's VERY compact and when paired with UHS-I flash cards it's reading at 82MB/sec!
