Install terminates after LVM parttioning

G'day,

I'm setting up LM14 KDE on a 3 disk system, and I want to concatenate the space so that apart from /boot and swap, it's all a single volume.

I've done this previously in Ubuntu, and now in LM14 I've set up the logical volumes, but when I start the installer and select which partition to use for which purpose, the installer just terminates without error message when I click "next".

My partitioning scheme is:
Disk 1 (500MB);
- partition 1 - 1GB - ext4 - mounted as /boot
- partition 2 - balance - part of root volume
Disk 2 (!TB)
- partition 1 - entire disk - part of root volume
Disk 3 (1TB)
- partition 1 - all but 8GB - part of root volume
- partition 2 - 8GB - swap
root volume - ~2TB - mounted as /

What am I doing wrong?

OK, I should have tried this earlier. The install crashes regardless of what disk arrangement I had; I tried with only one drive connected and the default partitioning, and it crashed. I've seen some comments about crashing during the ubiquity slideshow and how to uninstall it before starting, but there appears to be no slideshow in the KDE version.

So I'm stumped.

Well, I'll be buggered!

It was a dodgy DVD drive all along. Would have been good if the install program was a little more effusive in details of errors.
