Hi,
Last week i tried to upgrade my kernel according to this how-to: http://www.upubuntu.com/2013/02/install ... el-38.html.
This screwed up my complete system. After the reboot Cinnamon looked like the LXDE desktop. I tried to fix the graphic driver, nothing. It ended up in re-installing Mint by means of a new/fresh/clean installation.
So, my question is: Is Mint not capable enough doing a kernel upgrade as shown in the given link above?
kernel upgrade doesn't work for Cinnamon???

Re: kernel upgrade doesn't work for Cinnamon???
It is not a Mint problem but probably proprietary graphics drivers that are not ready to use this new kernel. This is why I always stick to O/S GPU drivers. Otherwise, when you switch to a newer kernel (3.5 to 3.8 for instance), some apps like Virtuabox in addition to graphics drivers may not be yet compatible. Skipping to a new Linux kernel is more like jumping from Windows XP to Windows Seven than like updating you current Firefox
