Weird Installation Problems

Postby sherhar on Thu Mar 07, 2013 12:25 pm

On boot of install disk, line "ISOLINK 4.04" appears, followed by word "aborted".
Then Linux Mint logo appears with auto boot.
Then "Linux 14" comes up in center of screen, with activity dots working.
Stays this way for 8 to 10 minutes, with quite a bit of DVD drive activity
Then a white screen appears for a few seconds, followed by words "Authentication Failure".
Eventually a screen box appears stating "Failure to start X-server. Press yes for info"
Pressing yes results in "Acpid exit" and advisory to remove DVD and press Enter.
Doing this causes a reboot.

I have d/l both Mint 13 and 14; both disks verify OK. Both give the exact same results as above,
so it would seem that the problem lies within my system (It runs Windows XP fine), which is:

PC Chips M756LMRT m/b with on board graphics (SIS 630 chipset); Pentium 3; 1 Gig memory;
CTX PL7 monitor; LG standard DVD drive.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
