Windows 8/Mint dual-boot disaster

I installed Mint 14 over Ubuntu 12.10 in a Windows 8/Ubuntu set-up. I was unhappy with Ubuntu due to a noisy fan (not audible in Windows).
In installing Mint in the Ubuntu partition the installer asked that I create a separate partition for some reason that i can't be sure, min. 100mb. I chose an existing partition of about 135mb ( I know!)
The result is Mint, without Windows. I've tried Windows Recovery (Refresh = The drive where Windows is installed is locked; Reset = A required partition is missing; Automatic Repair = A R couldn't repair your PC) I omitted to create a back-up.
I ran Boot Repair, which informed me

Boot successfully repaired.
Please write on a paper the following URL:

In case you still experience boot problem, indicate this URL to:
boot.repair@gmail.com or to your favorite support forum.
You can now reboot your computer.

The Asus laptop US32V came without an installation DVD, so a clean reinstall of Windows is not an option.
The manufacturer has suggested that I return the PC to them, but I feel that it's probably my own fault that the Windows boot file has become corrupt (if that is the case!).
Any ideas?
