Installing Linux Mint 13 on older desktop

I have a friend who has an older desktop which does not have the capability to boot to a USB drive but does have ability to boot to a CD-ROM device - he does not have DVD drive.
I have the ability to make bootable USB on my computer but I do not have DVD drive (and as I said neither does my friend's older computer).
Is there any way to get Linux Mint installed on his older computer under these circumstances ? Otherwise, I am going to have to put him on CentOS 6.2 but would greatly prefer to put him on Mint 13 ?
Is there something like the ALTERNATE/text install method that Ubuntu uses ?
Thanks.
