Can you elaborate on your meaning of "I removed UEFI" and how specifically you remove it and is it possible to turn off then on after install?
The Fedora18 has a pretty involved EFI install that seems to boot in some primitive form at first for a basic install and then will fully install. They SAY that its only required to do this with USB boot media and that the actual install DVD should work out of the box. I intend to grab a DVD RW and attempt the fiora install and a mint install with a DVD maybe it will work.

I deleted the efi system partition then reinstalled everything in non-efi mode (everything except mint that is because it never installed in efi mode in the first place, it wasn't capable of doing so).Can you elaborate on your meaning of "I removed UEFI" and how specifically you remove it and is it possible to turn off then on after install?
On my machine once the efi system partition is removed the machine is nothing but a doorstop until I use the procedure given here http://www.linlap.com/fujitsu_lifebook_ah532 to reset it. It can't even boot from a cd. It is unlikely that your machine will be as bad as that, mine was just a disaster until uefi was removed. Now it works fine.

Hey I had the same problem when trying to boot Ubuntu on my desktop. I finally managed to solve it tonight.
I'm using an ASrock Z77 Extreme 6 motherboard which uses two Sata3 controllers, an Intel one, and an ASmedia 1061. I have a SSD and HDD both plugged into the Intel controller. Then I have a DVD drive plugged into the ASmedia controller.
Linux doesn't support the ASmedia controller, so wouldn't let me boot. I disabled SATA3 mode from the bios and it all works well now. Next I'll try to plug the DVD drive into a SATA2 port and re-enable SATA3 mode on the ASmedia controller to see what happens.
