Just yesterday I received my new Inspiron 15 (3521). It has the UEFI Bios, Intel Celeron 1007U, 320GB Hitatchi HDD. I have been trying to do research on how to properly install Linux Mint onto this computer. I have had very little luck. Some pages tell me that EFI compatability is built in and to install as regular(Ubunut, Mint, Suse, Fedora). Others tell me to install on an EFI partition; which in the partition editor upon install does not allow you to select an EFI partition as Root. I also see there is some sort of new EFI installer I cant remember the name, but I am very confused. I am no stranger to Linux, but this has me baffled; on my 6yr old dell I have been running Crunchbang for about 4yrs. I have tried Xubunu, Mint-xfce,mate,cinnamon. All of them freeze mid install. There should be some sort of thread that is stickied to the top with proper and organized instructions on installation. I understand this is a dead horse and has been beat to a second death, but Windows 8 truely is terrible. Any constructive help is appreciative.

You don't use the EFI partition for root. It should only be ~100MB (some will argue that it should be 256MB). You install your bootloader there, nothing else. You just have to boot the Live disk with UEFI and proceed with the install. Otherwise you get a BIOS install. The BIOS install will still work, but you won't get the features and benefits of a UEFI install.
