I have been a Linux Mint 14 user for a while. When Fedora 18 came out, I installed that for a while to try, but then decided to return to Mint. I used gparted to partition my hard drive, deleted Fedora , and set up my / , /home and swap partitions as usual as EXT2. I installed the Linux mint 64 bit cinnamon edition as a dual boot with Windows 7 using Grub.
Now when Mint starts to boot, it starts booting, shuts down to a black screen, and eventually boots after a long delay. There is nothing different about my graphics card setup.
Even more curious, I tried to install Ubuntu 12.10, which I had also used before, to see what it did. The same problem occured. I reinstalled Fedora 18 with no problem. Has there been updated Mint 14 / Ubuntu releases with a different kernel? I have no idea what is going on here.
The third attempt at the mint install didn't boot at all with Mint checking the hard drive at each boot, for errors.
