12 CRYPTIC Question Marks with Elyssa Install

Hi,

I have examined the md5sums. I tried two different CDs. There is 1 GB RAM.
With both Beta-systems all was running well.

I have got a problem with installing the new 5.0 Release. I click the install icon. After Keyboard Layout there is an information window:

Starting up the partitioner. Then a cryptic window appears with 12 question marks and the no-entry traffic sign. I hit the OK button and the system is running around in a loop.

What is the solution? There a two hdds in the system sda and sdb.
there are the following partitions: sda1 sdb1 sdb5 sdb7 sdb8

sdb2 is the extented container. sdb6 is the swap partition.

I just tried the same CD with a single hdd system, only one partition sda1. Then this cryptic no-information-message does not appear. Therefore what is wrong with partition assembly?

I've never seen that before. It may be a hardware problem. Have you had any trouble with other distros? Post the output of

Hi,

I had never problems with other distros. There were no problems with same hardware with foregoing betas. UBUNTU 8.04 and MINT 4.0 is running quite well on this hardware.

My next suggestion was to try it without the second hard drive. Sounds like the second drive is making the installer choke.

Hi,

I have managed it to get a new Mint at the drive. I pulled one drive and made the sdb to a sda one. Only one disc drive was in the system. Then all was running well.

This bypass has for me the same relation to the problem, as if I take my bicycle and put it on the top my roof. The only unusual situation with my drives was: on former sda was no bootable windows, it was a data disc.

All former distributions including the Elyssa betas and Ubuntu 8.04 never never stumbled about my hardware.
I think it would be not the right way to set this thread solved.

I have noticed that Ubiquity - the installer - is a bit buggy when it comes to grub
I really do hope this is not one more bug
However to unplug one drive - install - plug it back in - perhaps make some changes to grub because of that
is an acceptable work around > this is installing and a bit more "geeky" than normal use
Something like it to fix a problem in a working system is not acceptable I agree
