cd drive seems to be ignored in BIOS

The order of booting in my Bios is
cd
Hard drive
floppy
network

When I try to boot from the cd I can see the cd drive try to read the disc for about 10 seconds , but eventually WINDOWS XP boots up.
I burnt the iso image to disc
The check sum number corresponds with the web site and my cd drive works fine and is ok with win xp, though it doesn't boot either.
I think I may have to alter something else in the BIOS but what?

Can I have the BIOS recognise and external hard drive ? What do i do?

My PC has a bios screen while booting that gives option to see the boot menu. I think it is F10 or something similar. I have to go to that boot menu to see any USB drive. My bios won't support directly booting to an external drive. You might try that, if it pertains to your problem.

I can get into the BIOS. That is not a problem.
The cd is the first thing which should be seen by the hardware , but the system still boots from the hard drive.

I think I must have to adjust another parameter, but I don't know what to adjust

Just a quick question, how did you burn the CD?
As a data CD or did you choose to burn as image? Because you need to burn as image, not as data CD.

Problem solved
The problem turned out to be another boot up program which over rode the BIOS instruction
