Single click?

This is kind of embarassing, since I'm not new to Linux, but that's the first time I use Gnome.
My problem is that I have to double-click any icon to open it, which is uncomfortable to me. I want to know how to set my mouse to open applications with a single click.

ceti, from the menu (start button) select control centre > in the control centre along the top select Desktop > File Management > Behaviour Tab > Select Single Click To Activate Items then close
