Won't install on computer

Postby bloodember on Sat Jun 14, 2008 3:34 pm

HI guys,
I've looked all over the forums for an answer and I can't find one so I'll just ask it. When trying to install Mint 5 on my main computer the installer just won't work. It just goes to a command line then gives me all these errors after sitting a few minutes. I got it to install on my old laptop with no problems, now I have other issues with that, but thats another time. My specs are as follows:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
2GB ram
Audigy 2 platinum sound
Nvidia 8800GT video card

I have a LG DVD writer, 250GB, and 2 500GB HDD drives on SATA, the HDD drives are Seagate

My mouse and keyboard are on usb, they are: keyboard- Merc Stealth, mouse- Microsoft Sidewinder

last is a Dell 22in monitor (don't think you needed this, but just in case)

I want to install on the second of the two 500GB drives, which I bought just for Linux.

thanks

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

You've not really given us much to go on ... you say you get "All these errors" but don't actually say what they are ?

Please post all the errors you get so that we may at least have a chance of helping you :)

It may be the nvidia card - some nvidia cards (like my 6600 GT) can't use the "nv" driver
Try compatability mode (press any key during initial countdown)
Or can you boot the live CD but not install?

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

ok here are the error codes, first the command line reads: initramfs
then goes to saying these errors then repeats the ata2 errors

ata1.00: revalidation failed (errno= -5)
ata2.00: revalidation failed (errno= -5)
ata2.00: Exception Emask 0x0 Sact 0x0 Serv 0x0 ation 0x2 Frozen
ata2.00: Status: DRDY

Husse: it won't even boot to live CD.

Hi !

I think you will find the fix for this here :

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=767668

Basically you need to add the following to the kernel boot options :
Code: Select all
noapic acpi=off

and again to the grub menu.lst file once Mint is installed.

It is all covered in the posting I have referenced above.
I hope this gets you going !
