Problems upgrading

i'm newbie in linux. Now, i'm use linuxmint v.3 [cassandra] then i want to upgrade to linuxmint 5. what am i doing ? i want upgrade b'cause in linuxmint 3 my soundcard not detect. my computer specification is hp compaq dx2200. please help me

You would probably have to upgrade to Celena, then upgrade to Daryna, and then to Elyssa. I don't think there is a straight upgrade path from Cassandra to Elyssa. You will never get upgraded that far without screwing up your system. It would be better to do a fresh install of Elyssa.
