Mint 5 CD fails to boot

Postby OdinsSon999 on Mon Jul 14, 2008 1:34 pm

Hi there,

I just downloaded the Mint 5 R1 main edition CD. I burned it in K3b. I put it in my DVD drive and rebooted. The spalsh screen comes up. After a moment I see the following messages

Loading /casper/vmlinuz............................................................
Loading /casper/initrd.gz..................isoinux: Disk error 80, AX = 4280, drive
9F

Boot failed: pres a key to retry...

This happens on both regular and safe mode.

I have no trouble booting any of the previous Mint editions.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Odins Son.

Typical culprit, first suspicion, assume the disc was burned at too high of a speed. Even K3B can produce a bad disc if allowed to burn at "full speed" or "auto".

Other easy culprits: bad download (bad checksum), optical drive has spontaneously failed (it happens; they're cheap-o), PEBKAC (you changed some settings in K3B or otherwise bolluxed the CD burn yourself).
