Keep having to change boot device

Postby denster on Fri Jul 18, 2008 10:57 pm

My problem may be somewhat similar to this thread: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=14911
However in searching I have not found any solution.

I have a dual boot with openSuse 11 (sda2) and Mint 5.0 (sda3)

I also have 3 drives all sata.

For some reason I have to keep changing the mint boot device back and forth from sdb3 to sda3 every other time. Weirdest thing ever.

My BIOS settings are correct and never change. My device.map is correct.

Anybody have any ideas what it could be?

Is there a file somewhere involved in the boot process that I am missing?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Do you have a removable drive?
That can cause problems. If not I really don't understand why this happens
We - all distros probably - have a problem with removable drives and especially a mix of IDE and SATA
I wrote a small wiki about it

Try using UUID for Mint There may be a problem if it's openSUSE's grub - don't know if it handles UUID In that case you have to change to Mint's grub

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
