Installer won't start

Postby eleventh on Thu Jul 24, 2008 10:16 pm

Ok, I'm sure some one has answered this question before, so I apologize in advance for that. But I've searched up and down these forums and on Google and can't seem to find an answer, so here goes:

I can't seem to get the Installer to start from a liveCD environment. Now the liveCD doesn't boot perfectly. I get the "The panel encountered a problem while loading OAFIID:GNOME_mint_Menu" error. I tried the solutions here (while on the liveCD) viewtopic.php?f=90&t=13951&hilit=oafiid to no avail. I also get an error: "There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon..." But other than the fact that I have no MintMenu, things seem to run ok (I can add other menus to move around).

Except for the installer. I double click on "install" and nothing happens. I right click on it and select "open," still nothing. So I'm kindof at a loss as to what to do here - any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help!

You might want to check the md5sum of the iso and burn at a slow speed.
This might just be a bad burn or a bad cd-r.
If you want you can run it from the terminal to see why it doesn't run.
Code: Select all
ubiquity --desktop %k gtk_ui

Thanks for the response. I reburned a new CD at a much slower speed (which hashed correctly) and when I'm trying to boot the CD I see a screen full of:
SQUASHFS error: Unable to read page, block 77, size fa2a
SQUASHFS error: sb_bread failed reading block 0x3e

Any idea what that means?

Update: Well after just rebooting several times, the CD now works. No idea why, but I'm certainly not complaining! Thanks for your help!
