Linux Mint 16 Installation Crash When "Checking CD/ROM

Postby Boojie Man on Mon Jan 06, 2014 9:53 pm

Hello everyone.

I'm having a problem Installing Linux Mint 16 via USB. During the installation process, it crashes right when it says “Checking CD/ROM” on the progress bar. I've been looking through the forums trying to find a solution, but I haven't found one yet. I know that the ISO could be corrupted, but it seems strange to me that I've been booting this OS from my usb for weeks just to have it crash during installation when “Checking CD/ ROM.” It just doesn't feel like the ISO is corupted if it's having a problem with the CD/ROM. What do you all think?

Also, I created the USB from YUMI, if that's important or not.

The only thing that comes to mind is the bios boot order.

What order do you think they would have to be placed?

@Boojie Man - If you still have the ISO file available on your machine, you should perform a md5checksum to verify it is not corrupted. This will eliminate any doubts in that regard. I've never tried Yumi, but have always had good luck with Linux Live USB Creator. The link is here: http://www.linuxliveusb.com/download

I put the CD drive at the bottom of the list, but it still crashed at the same point in the install. I do remember that I tried to create a bootable usb from universal usb installer, but it said it found 90 errors while creating the usb and it wouldn't boot. I tried using the same ISO on YUMI and it worked like a charm. Could this be the problem?

Let me understand it correctly, universal usb installer didn't work so you use YUMI and that worked for making the USB. But it still fails to install Linux Mint successfully from it. Correct?

What steps in the installer have you passed before it crashes?

Assuming you are writing the ISO from Windows onto the USB, you might use the Image Writer for Windows alternative listed here: http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/744

Hi,

Same error happened to me last night. It was a Lenovo ideapad without a CD/DVD ROM device. OS Image is downloaded via torrent.
I used YUMI for USB installation and everything was fine until “Checking CD/ ROM.”

I don't think it's related with boot order or the image integrity but maybe cannot detect the CD/ROM correctly as there is no CD/DVD ROM device attached.

I'll try to get any error logs or screenshots for more info.
