Mint 5 doesn't see my partitions

Postby Peter_the_Possum on Thu Aug 07, 2008 8:50 am

:( I have Mandriva 2008 and Win XP installed. Both work OK.
I wanted to install MINT over Mandriva x86_64 because of software compatability problems. x86_64 gets confused with i586 libraries. At least.
I ran the MINT Live CD and quite like it. However MINT Install doesn't see any of my existing partitions.
Mandriva on the other hand does.
Code: Select all
 e.g.
/dev/sda1 type: b WIN95
/dev/sda2 type: c WIN95
/dev/sda3 type: 5 Extended
/dev/sda4 type: 83 Linux /
/dev/sda5 type: 7 NTFS
/dev/sda6 type: 82 Linux Swap
/dev/sda7 type: 83 Linux /Home
/dev/sda8 type: 7 NTFS

Some are FAT32 left over from when Linux couldn't read NTFS partitions.

BTW, fdisk -l from a MINT terminal does show the disk partitions.

does not see...
Do you mean they really are invisible or that they don't get mounted?
With Elyssa/Hardy partitions don't get mounted any more automagically unless they are used by the system
Just open "Computer" and double click and they get mounted (I think you may have to sudo the first time, but only then)

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
