Cant Load LinuxMint!!

have not been able to install or even run linuxmint. on boot it hangs at the end of the start splash screen--i mean when the progress bar is full and the moment when "X" should start it doesnt it just sits there. tried graphic safe mode but nothing... same effect.
i think the problem is with my video card but not sure.

my box: amd athalon 3500, 2g ram, asus mobo k8n4 sli, ati radeon x700pro pcie

any suggestions would be great.

Check out the Ubuntu site as this was a problem for some people when Edgy first released, There is plenty of discussion on the forums about this. LM is based on the Ubuntu 'Edgy' release (6.10).
