Issue installing Mint 16 on Macbook 3.1 (2007)
Hey all,
I have installed earlier versions of mint on my macbook but im having an issue with mint 16. When I try booting from my dvd, it gives me
1.
2.
choose cd-rom type _
Cant do anything after that.
Remember reading about a special version of Ubuntu for older mac. Im assuming this is the same deal? Does this mean I wont be able to install and need to choose an older version?

With OS X running, try opening Apple => About this Mac. If you are running an Intel processor? If not, you probably cannot run Mint...
If do indeed have an Intel processor, try booting up with the correct key combination:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1533
This should take you to a boot selector.

Sorry bud yes it is an Intel, thus its called a MacBook and not a powerbook. I know about the key commands. Like I have stated, earlier versions of mint are successful.

Are you using the superdrive (on-board)?

Are you still running OS X 3.1? Have you tried udating to a later version (at least 3.X)?

No I'm on lion. I don't want os x on it. Anytime I had Linux on it I never dual booted. Just one os or another.

Hmmm... Would "Boot Camp Assistant" be of use?biggyk wrote:No I'm on lion. I don't want os x on it. Anytime I had Linux on it I never dual booted. Just one os or another.

Doubt it. It's weird cause 15 boots fine
Re: Issue installing Mint 16 on Macbook 3.1 (2007)
Have you verified that the install disc works?

Re: Issue installing Mint 16 on Macbook 3.1 (2007)
Thanks but unfortunately not. I know the latest ubuntu version have a special iso for macs so I have a feeling it has something do with it being impossible to boot with min 16 on my macbook. Is it possible to install an earlier version and update it to 16?
Re: Issue installing Mint 16 on Macbook 3.1 (2007)
I was able to boot my MacBook Pro off of BT5R3... I don't see a reason why Linux Mint won't boot either...
Re: Issue installing Mint 16 on Macbook 3.1 (2007)
When I hold option and get the boots screen, I choose UFI and then I choose start mint 16 but then its stays black. I also tried a windows 8.1 disk and its gives me that selelct cd boot type again.
Re: Issue installing Mint 16 on Macbook 3.1 (2007)
Hmmm... Is the boot selector screen white with the avaliable boot options?
