Linux mint will not boot

Post by mike450 »

I insert the Linux Mint CD into the machine
I get the first splash screen "start Linux 16"
Four dots appear below "start Linux 16"
Turning green from left to right
Flash screen with what looks like a few letters top left of screen and the rest of the screen appears to be covered with V s (This happens very quickly)
Screen goes black with with arrowhead
The arrow can be moved with the mouse
The screen flashes a number of times
About 5 minutes later the noise of drives stops and nothing else happens
I have tried Knoppix which boots up fine
I have tried Linux Mint 16 on 2 computers
I am running Windows 7 on one computer
The other computer had a blank hard drive
If possible, send me an email
Thanks
Mike (Newbie)

Hi Mike,
Which version of Linux Mint are you trying?
And what are the specs of your machine?
It probably is an issue with the videocard-support so do look at what videocard you use.
As a first optional fix you might try booting in compatibility mode (the second option in the boot menu) or try Mate if you now have Cinnamon.
Add (Solved) to the topic-title of the first post when appropriate so others know they might find a solution here.
