Installing Problem

Postby TJK on Tue Sep 09, 2008 11:12 am

Hello,

I'm trying to install Elyssa main edition. I downloaded it and ran a md5check, then burned the iso to a cd. I ran the cd and Linux Mint loader seemed to launch fine. After about 2 minutes it went to a black screen and I got this error:

Buffer I/O Error on device fd0, logical block 0

It kept repeating a bunch of times so I just rebooted to windows.

Can anyone help me out?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

fd0 is referring to a floppy drive. It usually means it is trying to find a floppy drive, and can't find it. Try letting it run for a few minutes to see if it will bypass this and load. If it does, you can blacklist the floppy module from loading after installing to your PC.

Did you have your burner software check the CD after burning it to verify it against the iso (which was previously verified by md5 checksum)?
Did you burn at the slowest possible speed?

I can not help you with your problem, but before an expert drops by you will need to provide your computer specifications, then they will be able to help, I hope......Maybe a kernel panic ?

TJK,

It sounds like a bad cd burn. As AK Dave suggested, burn slow, no faster than 8X. Also burn in a RAW mode, usually listed as DAO. Be sure to burn it as an iso, not a data cd. Check and make sure your BIOS is set so the cd drive boots before the hard drive.

I got the same error:

Buffer I/O Error on device fd0, logical block 0

For me it helped to disable the floppy-drive in the BIOS. I did not have a floppy-drive but is was still enabled in the BIOS.
After disabling the floppy-drive, the error did not appear again.

Hope this will help someone.
