LinuxMint for Nexus4

Postby carlosdanger on Sun Jun 22, 2014 2:52 pm

Hi,

I would like to install Linux Mint on my Nexus 4 and run it via Bluetooth mouse and keyboard and connect it to a 24 inch display.

I don't want Ubuntu Touch (or whatever it is called). I want a full desktop on a Nexus4. I think the CPU power and RAM size is good enough to get a decent result.

I want a real install. Not a pseudo-install while Android is running and then connect to it via VNC or something. I want to remove Android or make the Nexus4 dual boot.

Is it possible?

Thanks,
cd

Too bad. But isn't there an Ubuntu ARM Version?

In theory I could use Cinnamon on Ubuntu ARM to make it look and feel like LinuxMint?

According to the page linked, your device is NOT listed as being supported by Ubuntu ARM: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ARM/DeviceSupport

If a device is not listed there it doesn't mean it isn't working.

Most hardware isn't listed here and it is working nonetheless: http://www.ubuntu.com/certification

Since Ubuntu Touch (which somehow is full Ubuntu I guess) is running well on Nexus4 (it is the primary testing device at the moment), I would assume that Ubuntu runs on it in theory. But it seems Ubuntu (the company) is not interested to offer a method to install the Ubuntu Desktop on it. They are only interested in Ubuntu Touch.

Does anybody know if Ubuntu Touch supports what Ubuntu calls 'total convergence' by now? I mean the thing where you can conncet your Ubuntu Touch device (like the Nexus4) to a 24 inch monitor via HDMI and it will switch to the known Ubuntu Desktop (with Unity).
Is this working already?
