I've installed a second LM 16 (from the same live DVD) to a new SSD and I can see that all the files seem to be on the SSD.
The problem is that GRUB has apparently not been properly modified so I can choose to boot up from the SSD.
I'm fairly sure I messed up the step where I chose the boot location during installation. I'm afraid to experiment with this because I don't want to lose the ability to boot up from the HD until I know the SSD's installation is working properly.
Here's a link that explains GRUB and how to fix it.
Grub consists of two parts.
First, the main part of the program itself, which is placed in the Master Boot Record (MBR). The Master Boot Record is the first sector of the hard disk.
Secondly, there's the Grub boot menu with the various operating systems, plus some supporting files. These are not in the MBR, but in a folder on the active Linux partition.
But it's close-but-no-cigar! I can't figure out how to make the change(s) I need. I need to change the GRUB boot menu that's presumably located in the HD's LM 16 partition.
