HI everyone,
I'm having a problem trying to run a live session of Linux mint 17 Qiana,x64 Cinnamon.
Live session and installer : monitor display crashes after about 10 seconds
because the video is gone all flibberty I cant tell if the system crashes or not.
I dont get the blue-screen of death, or black screen....just wierd squiggledy lines and garbage on the screen after the desktop locks up and refuses to respond.
This happens immmediately, theres no time to enter a comand, use the terminal..or anything.
The Desktop appears, freezes, and then display crashes.
waiting does nothing..cause nothing changes...I have to turn the computer off manually.
my video card is Nvidia Geforce 6150
Is there anything I can do about this?
Are others reporting the same problem?

Re: Linux Mint 17 live session monitor display crashes
What are your system specs, RAM.. CPU??
Re: Linux Mint 17 live session monitor display crashes
Hi Clutchdisc,
-Processor-
AMD Phenom(tm) 9150e Quad-Core Processor
Im looking at hard info on my existing mint 14, but Ram device info seems to be unintelligable
I have 8 gb ram pyhsically installed
( I had made an error typing the name of the video device in my first post, but its fixed now so I deleted the correction here)
and Im using an Acer 1600x900 flat screen monitor

Re: Linux Mint 17 live session monitor display crashes
Well you certainly have the specs to run Cinnamon.. so that's not a problem. I'll have to let someone else help from here because I don't use Cinnamon.

Thanks ClutchDisc,
I'm hoping someone here can help.
I love Cinnamon, and I want to try qiana, but I've downloaded and verified the checksum.
written new discs and tried again multiple times..and I still cant run the live session or install.

Did you check the md5sum of the downloaded .iso?

Hi austin.texas ,
Yes I did.
The md5sum , or checksum on each downloaded iso that was written to disc, was correct.
p.s. thanks for thinking about the problem and replying with an idea.

Re: Linux Mint 17 live session monitor display crashes
After a lot of experimentation, and several tries at getting the mint 17 live session to run
its become clear that whats happening is that the live session os is crashing.
Because I should have more than enough ram, and a good enough video card and processor to run mint with cinnamon
I think there may be a hardware problem somewhere, but Im having trouble trying to diagnose it.
my mint 14 seems to be running fine, if a little slow, but I really need to upgrade if im going to keep my other software up-to-date.
I'll keep trying and let you all know how things progress.

Re: Linux Mint 17 live session monitor display crashes
Might try Mint 13 as that is still supported until 2017.
Re: Linux Mint 17 live session monitor display crashes
The reason the system kept crashing, is that the onboard video device was failing.
so...even though the issue isnt exactly solved it wasnt a bug or fault in either the installer, or mint itself that caused the problem.
I've tried every version of every release of mint since mint 12, as well as a few other distros and essentially the same thing happens with all of them.
: (
Im on a barebones install of Manjaro/arch xfce right now
and the x display will probably crash again before I finish this forum visit.
I will probably try mint 13 again before I hold the funeral rites for my computer, because im pretty sure theres no way I can replace this machine.
best to all, and thanks for your efforts and suggestions.
