Wont let me install past the partition hard drive.

OK well on my laptop, its a fairly old one, it wont let me install from the live cd past the hard drive partition space. I get to that spot and it wont let me partition anything. nothing shows up on the list to partition. does it not recognize my hard drive?

This is something that I find puzzling and no good
The partitioning tool in Ubiquity does not work that well
You could probably use gparted from the live CD to partition (at least a swap and a partition for root)
You then choose manual partitioning and select the newly created partitions (right click > Edit)
This seems to help getting past that obstacle

This happens to me with almost every linux distro. When you put in the live cd and it as soon as you see the "Linux Mint" screen come up, hit tab, and then hit the corresponding key for options (I beleive it is F3 - no F6 /Husse) in there you will see something like /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.24-16-generic or something along those lines. add a space inbetween that and then put pci=nomsi. this made it so it could detect my hard drive, hopefully it works for you. If you aren't using a live CD, then i don't know :P .

pci=nomsi
Thanks for that tip - I haven't seen it before.
A brief study of it tells me it is something you should avoid as long as possible and restrict as much as possible - but also powerful...
