what is group id 999?

Postby galen on Sat Oct 18, 2008 7:45 pm

I've noticed several folders and files with group ID 999.
I believe those root system files and folders should be root.root not root.999

I thought I answered this.... At least I did some checking. gid from 100 to 999 are for the system (and thus root)
I did not find much more
Which files and folders did you find?

everything in /boot/grub

Confirmed
Seems that different parts of root get different gid....
Unless it is a problem for you I suggest we leave it for now and research the subject time given (and I'm on overtime :))
