Which version of Mint and how much memory does this older computer have?
To run the live CD you are recommended to have some 300+ MB - but running the installed version takes much less memory
The fluxbox version is least memory hungry
One solution is to use Knoppix or some such to make a swap partition - it will be used by the live CD

There's a warning in red on MSI's page for that mobo
http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_sp ... l=RC410M-L
Maybe you should try another timing on the memory
Apart from that I can't for sure tell you what's wrong
The troubleshooter gives you a few options
http://www.linuxmint.com/wiki/index.php ... d_problems
I think the option to start with would be irqpoll
Sorry that it does not work....
