Fresh Install of Mint with /home Migration

I'm considering upgrading to Mint 5 X64. I'm currently using Daryna. If I were to archive my /home directory, do a clean install of Mint X64, and copy back my /home directory, will all my settings, Thunderbird e-mail, and desktop files from my previous install be carried over?

I'm just wondering how much trouble this is really worth and if I'll lose a lot of files and settings. I don't want to have to set-up every single application again from scratch.

Yes, this is how I do a distro upgrade. Just make sure that you backup the hidden files as well that contain all your apps and config data.

My suggestion though is to only copy back the application (thunderbird etc) and config data that you really need. Just copying back you whole home directory may cause problems and won't give you the full upgrade experience.
