Rename my home directory solved

Postby elija on Sun Dec 21, 2008 9:37 am

I am going to dual boot Linux Mint 6 with my existing distro and I want to use the same home partition and user name but with different home directories.

In both distros my user name will be elija but I would like my Mint home directory to be called elija-mint. I plan to create a separate documents directory that will be symlinked in both distros as I believe this will be the easiest way to share data between them.

How to I set the home directory name at install time?
less is more, but more more than more is, so more is less less, so use more less if you want less more, more or less.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

You can't - as far as I know home is only called home
You have to use different user names
Never ever use the same user name and home in more than one distro :)
One way to do this is not to have home on a separate partition in Mint and mount the home partition of the other distro in Mint's home
Something like the suggestion for a data partition here:
http://www.linuxmint.com/wiki/index.php ... _partition
In this case it is possible to use the same user name in both distros

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

That looks like it will be just the ticket :D Thank you

I'll give that a go over the holiday.
