Boot message question and boot time

Postby fab on Tue Dec 30, 2008 4:04 pm

I am looking at speeding up boot time slightly (1min from grub to desktop) and noticed the following messages during boot

[ 2.007354] EISA: Probing bus 0 at eisa.0
[ 2.007368] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 1
[ 2.007397] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 8
[ 2.007400] EISA: Detected 0 cards.

[ 22.608268] ali15x3_smbus 0000:00:11.0: ALI15X3_smb region uninitialized - upgrade BIOS or use force_addr=0xaddr
[ 22.608333] ali15x3_smbus 0000:00:11.0: ALI15X3 not detected, module not inserted.

[ 27.544077] AC'97 1 does not respond - RESET
[ 27.560142] AC'97 1 access is not valid [0xffffffff], removing mixer.
[ 27.560207] ali mixer 1 creating error.

Is there anything I can do to fix or skip these steps? Also If you have any suggestions on how to speed up boot I would like to hear them.

Mint is installed on an old Compaq Presario 2100, suspend doesn't work so I have to boot and power off every time I use it. So 1min can be an eternity sometime.

For reference on the same machine a HDD puppy install boot in 30 sec, Arch with XFCE in 45sec and Opensuse in 1min and 50sec.

If I could get mint to boot in 50 sec, I would be happy with that.

I tried to uninstall bluetooth but the bluetooth-applet process is still present.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

One minute is Ok but I understand you,
Those you ask about can't be stopped I'm afraid - possibly by blacklisting but you have to know the exact names of the modules involved.....
You could try Ubuntutweaks
http://ubuntu-tweak.com/
Take a few moments extra to consider if any setting may interfere with Mint, but I think you'll be OK

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
