I have tried to install Mint 6 on my friends Dell Optiplex 160L . It has Intel video. But when running the live CD the screen goes black and I can't go any farther.
Is there a command I can run to get Mint 6 to read the video card?

Re: Mint 6 can't read video card
I think the OptiPlex 160L came with 128 MB of RAM. Has that amount been upgraded? If not, that might be the issue.
I installed Mint 4 on my Dell OptiPlex GX150 when it had 256 MB RAM. I added another stick of 256 MB to max out the motherboard. It is pretty solid and currently runs Mint 6 just fine.

it has 1gb RAM and I've run PCLOS and Mandriva on it and they worked well. But I sold it to my neighbor and with his old CRT monitor it doesn't work. With Mint 6, I can't even get the live cd to run after the boot up screen.

try this. When boot starts press F6 then delete the "quiet splash --" from the end then add "ro single" (no quotes) where you just deleted "quiet splash --" then press enter.
