Can't boot LinuxMint after upgrading to Windows 7!

Postby tmL on Wed Jan 21, 2009 7:41 pm

Hey, so I decided to give Windows 7 a try and I upgraded my vesion on Vista. However, after the installation finished, whenever I turn on the computer, it automatically boots Windows 7 instead of loading the boot manager that loaded before, so I'm not able to choose to load Linux. How can I get that boot manager back? I'm pretty sure I could reinstall Linux but is there a way to do it without doing that? Thanks!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

You can no longer boot to your Mint installation because your MBR, where GRUB is supposed to reside, is overwritten with Windows' boot loader (NTLOADER) which doesn't handle non-windows partitions.

You can find information on how to restore your GRUB in the How To section of Mint Wiki:
