Welcome to Mint.

Have you tried installing in safe mode?

Welcome to Mint. Nope, not sarcasm, but an actual greeting of gladness to see you here. We have a friendly forum, as you will soon discover.

With Mint 6 (and others distros), quite a few of us have had to start using "compatibility mode" with our hardware. It has something to do with the new xorg, and is not under Clem's control. He would wrangle it into submission if he could.

Once you use "compatibility mode" to load the Live CD and then install Mint, you never worry about that option again. Everything else flows smoothly and normally like a regular install, as far as my situation was concerned.

Please post back once you get everything up and running. We would like to hear how everything goes. Have fun.

Nope No sarcasm. Genuine welcome.

What you report about the disk partitioning does sound right. May be worth trying the install again.

If you have further problems could you list your hardware.

Glad to hear you eventually succeeded.

Sounds like you may need to change the display driver. What is your graphics card and can you post your xorg.conf file.
