Best way to install Mint to flash drive?

Postby kaivorth on Tue Mar 17, 2009 5:03 pm

Okay I need to install Linux Mint 6 onto a flash drive. For the record, I'm using an 8gb MicroSD card, and using an adpater to USB.
I did this once, it worked, but I don't think it was persistent. Mint was really fast and snappy, even for a MicroSD card.
For some reason, I don't think it was a persistent install, as everytime I tried to install Nvidia drivers, and it told me to reboot, I rebooted to it asking me to download/install, again.

Anyway I can do a persistent install, so I can save my stuff?

Are there better Distros for this? I really do like Compiz Fusion, with all the eyecandy.

And what is this XFCE version? Is it worth doing this one instead?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Here is one way to deal with the USB persistent Mint problem, although I am still trying to make it work for me. I may have been using a USB mem-stick that just won't allow persistence, or something, so I am trying to create one with a different stick now.

Your original install may still work with that slight edit of a text file.

You can search this site for a few more related threads, too.

I don't have that XFCE Linux, going to try that tomorrow maybe. Using just the 32bit normal Mint 6. I tried that method, assuming it would work anyway, it didn't. Installed Nvidia drivers, uninstalled, and they were gone.

Check this "how-to" in the LinuxMint Wiki. http://linuxmint.com/wiki/index.php/LiveUSB
