Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Open a terminal, enter the following commands (one at a time) and post the outputs here so we can see which broadcom you have. You will most likely need the windows drivers. They may be on a CD (if you have one) or in your windows install (if you have one/can find the drivers). You can connect to the internet via ethernet cable and download/install the linux broadcom driver with the "hardware drivers" utility but it will probably be buggy/slow.

All the 4311 solutions I see point to this Ubuntu howto as working well.

These are the bits you need, copy them into a terminal one line at a time. (Highlight the line then centre-click in the terminal to paste). I don't know if you should follow step 2a or step 2b. Try step 2a first. If you go through all the steps and wireless still doesn't work try 2b instead.

1.
Code: Select all
echo -e 'blacklist bcm43xx\nblacklist wl' | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
mkdir ~/bcm43xx; cd ~/bcm43xx

2a.
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install cabextract
wget ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp34001-34500/sp34152.exe
cabextract sp34152.exe

(If the download doesn't work replace compaq with hp in the above address)

2b. (In case 2a doesn't make your wireless work)
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install cabextract
wget ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp33001-33500/sp33008.exe
cabextract sp33008.exe

3.
Code: Select all
sudo ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf
ndiswrapper -l
sudo depmod -a
sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
sudo cp /etc/network/interfaces /etc/network/interfaces.orig
echo -e 'auto lo\niface lo inet loopback\n' | sudo tee /etc/network/interfaces
sudo ndiswrapper -m
echo 'ndiswrapper' | sudo tee -a /etc/modules
echo 'ENABLED=0' | sudo tee -a /etc/default/wpasupplicant
