no graphical interface.cant even reach live desktop

Postby splpayet on Fri May 04, 2007 10:07 am

hello,

i need some help please. I downloaded the mint kde "stable" version and burned it to a dvd. its boots, i selected "start linux mint". after a short while it said it couldnt display this video mode n that i had to set it to 1280 X 1024.

i restarted computer.pressed F4 and selected that display mode. there were 2
1280 X 1024 X 16
1280 X 1024 X 32

i tried both and got the same results. it loads the kernel and all that. then it reaches a page that said Ubuntu has no warranty blah blah blah and on each restart there'l be a new quote or joke at the end, with "mint@mint" at the bottom. (its in the command line mode thing!!). it just stucks at this place. i tried in another computer, burned the dvd again and same results EVERYTIME.

pleeeeeeez help. i have tried dozens of distro's and this is a first i must say. its very annoying. i cant even use the Live desktop to at least check it out. anyone help please. i tried to start in safe graphics mode but it just doesnt work.

Hi
The first thing, try the CD on another computer if possible to make sure it has been downloaded and burnt OK

Next, could you post the specifications and motherboard of your computer

check out the wiki and the trouble shooting cd.

if it didnt work in the other computer peaty high chance it is a bad DVD.

try the gnome mint cd, is seems more stable.

i really don't like gnome anymore!! im kinda addicted to kde!! anyway, more problems for me it seems.

MD5 Sum I'm suppose to have-- 60fe4e6b6d2fc5bc66d701c397036a15
MD5 Sum K3B says i have-- 50aa26b6ed917ba9b37b40effbb6d2fb

oh dear!! what to do now. where i live it takes 10 hours to download that 1.9GB of mint. re-downloding will be a pain in the a**.

i did burn the image on a brand new DVD-R (at speed 16X though..K3B's fault that is!) and it gave me this problem. I burned on another DVD at 4X speed and same thing again.

Im very disappointed with this problem. at least if I could use the Live DVD. 10 hours it took me!! any other recommendations guys?...please

No doubt. But this problem is with your Internet service: The ISO file was corrupted during download, and you've got a pain-in-the-arse slow connection.

Always check the file MD5 before burning a disc. Otherwise you're just making shiny coasters for your coffee table.

No double- or cross-posting please. I deleted the other thread due to being redundant.

??? Bianca KDE has 808MB
Windows is extremely fast after a fresh install. If you want to make it stay that way: - don't use it.
