Error 17

Postby grewal1212 on Tue Apr 21, 2009 11:37 pm

Hi everyone.
Let me start off by saying that I have already searched the interweb for this and HAVE found the solutionS but they dont really work.
I am assuming there are different reasons that can cause an Error 17. Hence, there are different solutions.
I was happily running Linux Mint and XP before this happened.

What did I do?
I had XP installed first, then I installed Mint.
I didnt give Mint enough space though since I was just 'testing' it.
I kinda started liking mint. (Sounds like i'm telling a love story) So, I decided to increase the partition size for it. To do that I had to free up some space from Windows partition.
This is where my stupidity kicked in. Instead of using Gparted, I used Paragon Hard Disk Manager.
It resized the disk fine but then it gave me the Error 17 on a restart.
I am assuming that it flagged the wrong volume.
Anyone know how to fix this?
I have a Live Linux Mint 6 cd that I can use to access the hard drives.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

From the subject line I thought it was this problem
http://www.linuxmint.com/wiki/index.php ... annot_boot
But reading the post makes me think you should repair grub

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

Thanks for the help.
I took the other pill.
I just popped in the XP cd and under Repair, I fixed the MBR for XP.
That helped in booting up the XP partition. I deleted the other partitions(Mint Partitions). Will be starting over again.
I guess its good, i will have more experience in installing mint? get to know how to partition the hard drive better so i don't make the same mistake again. haha.
Again, thanks for the help Husse.
