I tried it successfully some time ago and it worked for me. Had to abandon the project as the PC (old school) doesn't support booting from a usb device. Before you invest too much time in this project, you may want to also verify that your laptop supports usb bootup (via the bios).

in ubuntu 8 it worked for me and I don't think the system in mint is adjusted, so it should work yes
