Installation Error

Postby mwm1998 on Mon May 04, 2009 3:59 pm

Dual Boot System with Windows XP. SUSE 11.1 was successfully installed and was able to dual. I did a manual partition configuration and used the same configurations as SUSE11.11 sda5 - swap; sda6 /root; sda7 /home. boot record to (hd0)

Installation was 94-96 percent complete. Running "grub-install (hd0)"

error
Unable to install GRUE
Executing 'grub-instal (hd0) failed
This is a fatal error.

Apparently no boot loader exists
I did this previously today so I know it works: I know I can reload SUSE 11.1 and get bootloader back.

When I go into Mint Grub editor, I get a file not found

By the way the exact same thing happened when I tried to load Kubuntu

Thanks
Michael

I got lucky on this one. I decided to reinstall. I partitioned as mentioned above but when I went to the advanced tab I configured the boot loader to load in /dev/sda instead of hd0,0. Everything worked perfectly after that.
