Installing Mint within Mint

Postby caris_mere on Tue May 05, 2009 3:17 am

I have some hardware problems that don't allow me to install a new OS with a cd or usb stick. A friend sent me a link that shows that one could install linux onto a different partion through the currently booted OS. http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/apds03.html.en Has anybody tried this? If I did, could I get my computer configured and setup as if I had installed from a boot cd? Does anybody know any other options of installing?

Thanks

I browsed the internet a bit and found a guide to installing Ubuntu without a cdrom. It sounded good, but it requires the alternate cd. I am trying to install Mint 4, and it is a live cd. (The only reason I want Mint 4 is because after Mint 4 my computer won't work with a digital projector.) The link for the guide is here

Any ideas how I could work around the alternate cd problem and still install with this method?

Thanks again,
Scott

I guess not many people have installed this way. I found some various guides online, but none that would work with recent distros. I think it sure would be a nice tool for helping install. It seems like it should be possible to make it install into another partition, but I'm no developer.
